Artist Statement

This painting is the first in a series that I intend to do about my travels on Highway 16. I frequently travel this highway on my pilgrimages to visit family in Alberta. I have many jiggled, blurred and mundane images stored in my mind from my travels, but there are many pristinely clear and beautiful images stored there also. One chilly winter trip, I put my camera to work to capture some of the images as we sped down the highway. One somewhat blurry photo left a much clearer and profound image on my mind, and so resulted in this painting.
