Artist Statement:

In 2013, I did a series of 4 semi-abstract paintings of ripe canola pods. At that point, I felt a need to explore painting canola in bloom, but did not have any suitable reference material. I ran across a photo in a book, but did not purchase the book. However, the image haunted me, so I did a quick sketch on a post-it note. About 2 months later, I decided to do the painting based on my post-it note sketch, and memories of canola fields from my travels through rural Alberta in the summertime. This painting is a result of that effort.
