As I sat working on this painting ‘en plein air’, I felt a sort of savage and cruel beauty in the landscape. The land was rugged, the weather was fickle, alternating between heat and rain, and the insects of summer were chasing and biting me. The colors of the flora were almost fluorescent, the result of much rain in the previous few weeks. The scene was from the hills near Pinantan Lake.
