Artist Statement

These ‘Canada 150 Tulips’ were growing in a lovely little window-box at the Old Courthouse in Kamloops. The red and white tulips (with the sort of maple leaf in red on the white) are called the Canada 150 Tulips because they were specially bred (with assistance from the Netherlands) for Canada’s 150th Anniversary.  I have simplified the composition compared to the original photograph, striving to capture the cleanliness of line and the curvilinear, undulating shapes of the leaves. This is the first of 2 paintings of these tulips.
